It was also surrounding Sirius that a host of elaborate legends and beliefs came into being.Īll rights reserved. It was around this annual coming and going that certain ancient cultures and civilizations organized their religious year, and synchronized their calendars with the agricultural cycles. In late May it disappears from view, rejoining the sun for a period of slightly over two months. Every year Sirius emerges from the glare of the sun in late July, and by year's end it hangs on the meridian at midnight. Sirius can be easily seen over most of the surface of the earth, except for a zone north of the Arctic Circle, where it never rises. Sirius, with its flashing brilliance, is a striking feature of the northern winter sky and has understandably drawn the attention of observers of the heavens for thousands of years. Only the sun, the moon, and at times the planets Venus, Jupiter, and on rare occasions Mars, appear brighter. Of all the fixed stars in the night sky, Sirius is by far the brightest-almost twice as bright as its nearest rival, the star Canopus, which resides too far south to be viewed over much of the northern hemisphere. The introduction to this book is a particularly good place to establish some of the well-known facts regarding Sirius.

When I finally figured out that there were all these stores here, shopping around my neighborhood became one of my favorite things to do. They're all within walking distance from one another. I never really noticed it until I started doing a renovation to my apartment. Oddly enough we have a lot of home stores on Atlantic Avenue. So Rio, my son, just wants to sit there and talk to Taiki the entire night. There are only two people at the sushi bar that are running the entire restaurant and Taiki, the owner, is one of them. My son always wants to sit at the sushi bar. It's to the point that my six-year-old son will walk in and be like, “Hey, Taiki, give me a pound.” It's really cute. Taiki is a really great sushi place right around the corner from me. They have these flash-fried chickpeas-you have to get those, they’re amazing and highly addicting. So it's somewhere that my husband and I go to quite frequently, sometimes on date nights. I am a really big fan of biodynamic wines and they have such an extensive list. Since it’s run by the same owners of Colonie, I knew that the food would be really great. It’s so great I actually had my 40th birthday party there. I do not own it, but I am a spokesperson for it, basically.Īnd then anything that Colonie makes, of course I'm gonna go to, so I love Pips. And I highly recommend that you get dessert, they have this Sticky Date Cake that is insane. Even if you just want to sit at the bar and have a really great dirty martini, this is your spot. It's a farm-to-table spot so the menu changes with the seasons, which I really, really like. Do you own the restaurant by now?” I'm so obsessed with this restaurant that I actually hired the chefs to do a dinner for us for RHONY. I mean, I go here to the point that it's almost too much. I actually filmed for RHONY at Rucola this season, so you might recognize it on the show.Ĭolonie is my favorite restaurant. It's very warm and welcoming, so it is one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. It's one of those restaurants, when you go in, you know you're going to see a friendly face. It’s almost like Cheers where everyone knows your name. We don't have a lot of places in Boerum Hill that feel like that. Sometimes I will order from there, pick it up, and then just come home and sit at my desk and work for the rest of the day. They are also open for dinner, but I personally love lunch because they have this Antipasto Sandwich that is amazing. Plus, it's in a cute little area where you could sit outside and see your neighbors. It's a little bit on the healthier side–they even have chaga mushrooms–and I'm a big health nut, so I really like it. I'm so crazy about oat milk, and they also have great acai bowls and pastries. Since we do take the train, Cafe Volkan is right there and they have great oat milk. I usually start my day at Cafe Volkan when I am dropping off the kids. My kids know every last stop on the F train-this is our world. Some of my followers reach out to me and are like, “I don't know how you trek your kids around on the train and everything.” But I love it. You get up and you go out and you do the things-it's a hustle that you cannot find anywhere else. As a city kid you just don't sit around and wait for things to be handed to you. Now I am raising two children in the city, and it teaches them to be so open-minded, which I really, really appreciate. We were introduced to so many different ethnicities and cultures and it's the norm. If you wanna learn something, there is someone that will teach you. Any interest or hobby that you have is right at your fingertips, because this is New York City. I would never replace growing up as a city kid. By clearing out enemies, Chief captures these points and uses them to reveal high-value targets with rewards, UNSC distress calls, call in vehicles, customise loadouts, and rally NPC marines to join the fight. In fact, the game still feels quite linear and forces the player into a straightforward path of missions to progress and unlock more spaces of Installation 07.įOBs are UNSC deployed bases lost to the Banished during their six-month occupation of the Ring. Halo purists might be screaming at their screens right now, but it’s not all bad. After two great intro missions, the Spartan steps out into the open world with Forward Operation Bases (FOBs) to capture, marines to save, and Banished to eliminate. The major change is the open-world aspects of the Zeta Halo. Regardless, it’s a serviceable story to drive remarkable gameplay. It also lacks a mission select screen, making returning to specific areas of the game to find collectables a painful chore. The story itself isn’t too complex or contemplative, so no mind-blowing revelation or twist. The voice acting and animation are terrific, and the seamless transitions between cinematic and gameplay are impressive. Overall, the narrative plays on its strengths and doesn’t do much more than it should. Albeit, this is a Master Chief story through-and-through, but this character reveals a vulnerable side of the tough Spartan that we don’t often see. A touching moment with Chief about hope, failure, and determination refreshes the man’s outlook and back they go to face an incredible challenge. A soul lost and broken from his experiences, he sees demise and failure in every step. The UNSC member that saves Master Chief plays a huge role in the emotive tones of the story. “Halo Infinite leans into the classic story experience… the very first scenes will fill anyone with glee…” It’s supposed to be entertaining, and the voices and their delivery are the best they’ve ever been. The back and forth with Not-Cortana may initially be annoying until it quickly grows on you because 343 Studios know what they have on their hands - a Halo game. Master Chief is set on another impossible mission, throwing out one-liners with gusto and the very first scenes will fill anyone with glee when he says “status report” and “I need a weapon”. Immediately, Halo Infinite leans into the classic story experience. The Banished is busy trying to unleash a new threat on this Halo and together the team aim to finish the fight. There, Master Chief recovers an AI he describes as “The Weapon” who resembles the wise Cortana, cracking jokes back and forth with an abundance of flair. Found floating in space 18 months after the events of Halo 5: Guardians, Master Chief is saved by a lone UNSC member and the two land on the heavily damaged Installation 07, the Zeta Halo. You can watch the livestreams on KLab’s Twitter or Youtube accounts. I simply took the screenshot of the whole screen to include the KLab logo in the outer brown border. You may notice some are full-screen and others have an inner blue border around the art. They are from the KLab Livestreams that happen a couple of days after they announce the new banner. I just wanted to bring everyone up to date with how this process works and post the arts that didn’t make it to the subreddit (Halloween, Spirit Society, Christmas and New Year). While I will probably continue to post Concept Arts for future Seasonal Banners on the subreddit, I probably won’t update the Imgur gallery. Usually when I make a post, I will group 3 together as they appear in the banner to avoid multiple posts on the same day. To my knowledge, there are no official images released by KLab. Yes, they might not be in 1440p or HQ because they are screenshots from Youtube videos. In the link above, you’ll find all the concept arts that KLab have shared at the time of posting, or at least the ones I can find. This rank is hereditary which means that since the Battle of Nine Days, one family line of chiefs has ruled. The main representative of their tribe is the Chief, who as king rules over them. The only distinguishing feature in this case is the division of the clothes into a bra and shorts. The chief also wears a large gold crown inlaid with crystals.įemale Keepers are very similar in appearance to males and do not have lashes or distinctive lips like most females in other cultures. Some of them have a covered chest, others have the upper half of the body exposed. As clothing, they wear simple straw or wooden clothing with green crystals except for the chief, whose clothing is gold. They all have black hair color and wear hairstyles with their hair tied, although some are bald. They are also gray around and between the eyes. Their very distinctive feature is the large yellow teeth, which are usually sharp, except for two large teeth that come out of their mouths sideways. On their skin, especially on the face, they have various characters resembling the Jungle Dragons painted in gold, white or purple. However, it is depicted as lavender in the flashback in " Master of the Sea," which might mean they originally had lavender skin before they started using Storm. However, Mammatus and the other Keepers were soon surprised once they realized that the amulet was a fake.Īfter the Overlord conquered Ninjago City, the Keepers and Zippy joined Benthomaar and the Merlopians to help the ninja fight against the Crystal army.Īll Keepers are very reminiscent of humans, except for the color of their skin, which is a purple-pink radiant color. After being convinced, Mammatus gave Nya the Storm Amulet, passing the Keepers' oath to protect the Storm Amulet to her. However, the ninja stated that they need to take the amulet far away from the island as possible due to Kalmaar's forces being stronger. The Keepers made up for their mistake by helping the ninja and making amends.Īfter the Keepers all take took the ninja to their village, they realized that Kalmaar intended to take the Storm Amulet to awaken Wojira and attempted to prepare for battle. However, the Keepers soon discovered from the ninja that they were tricked into giving away their treasures. As Jay believed that they wanted him to be their king because of his Elemental Powers, the Keepers wanted him so they can sacrifice him to Wojira, thinking that offering a human to the serpent would let her go back to sleep forever. Declaring the ninja to be their prisoners forever, the Keepers took them all to a cell, except for Jay. As weeks passed, the Keepers mistook the ninja for wanting to steal the Storm Amulet, even though they just wanted to rescue Misako and Wu, who were captured by the islanders for the same reason. Unbeknownst to them, they were actually offering gold and their resources to Ronin, who used a boat that was made to resemble the sea serpent. When Nyad defeated Wojira and the seas calmed down, the First Spinjitzu Master gave the Storm Amulet, one of the two Amulets of Wojira, to the islanders to guard it from Wojira and any outsider who would wish to steal it, and the Keepers kept the oath.Ī thousands of years later, when the Keepers realized that Wojira was awake, they had no choice but to offer sacrifices to her so they can keep her submissive. When the First Spinjitzu Master entered the realm and saw the chaos that Wojira was causing, he allied with the islanders and Merlopians and fought together against Wojira. At this time lived in Ninjago two species of inhabitants were terrorized by Wojira and her power, the Merlopians, who lived under the sea, and the islanders, who lived on a small island. Long before time had a name, Wojira controlled the Endless Sea by using the sources of her power, the Amulets of Wojira. But she seemed much older and I was too shy to talk to her then.” He recalled: “I was sat in a café when I caught Donna’s eye. Jay first noticed Donna when he was 12 years old. “Donna has been so accepting and supportive. I always fancied Donna as a man would do. To me he had always been really masculine and suddenly everything made sense.”Īnd Jay – who from a toddler felt he had been wrongly born as a female – added: “I also knew I wasn’t gay. “So I wasn’t shocked at all when Jay told me he was transitioning into a man. And I was so confused as I knew I wasn’t gay – I’d had boyfriends – and I’d never fancied a woman before. She explained to the Sunday People: “When I fell for Jay he was still living as Jodie. Yet while Jay worried she might be shocked by the revelation he was transgender, Donna, who has never fancied women, told of her relief over his confession. Madly-in-love Donna, 24, and 20-year-old Jay hope to marry and become a mum and dad.īut only after Jay, who has already started taking male hormones, has completed his sex change. Cuddling up together for a photo, Donna Cummins and her boyfriend look like any other loved-up couple.īut incredibly her partner Jay Proffitt was born a girl.Īnd now he is about to complete a sex change so that the pair – who have never seen themselves as lesbians – can live the rest of their lives as a STRAIGHT couple. Body on frame construction is more suited to a large car, and the Thunderbird was now becoming a large car indeed, though not quite a full size automobile. The reasons for this were twofold, the first being that the unibody construction made the older Thunderbirds expensive to repair after collision damage and meant that rusting affected the structural integrity of the car, and secondly that as the Thunderbird became bigger it became less and less suited for building that way. That changed in 1967, when the Thunderbird took the seeming retrograde step of reverting to the classic body on frame style, like most American cars of the period. Body on Frame constructionĪll previous Thunderbirds had unibody (or monocoque) construction, in which the body structure itself is the load-bearing member, rather than a seperate, rigid chassis frame. It was this very difference, the change from an inoffensive but attractive style to one that's aggressive, fast, uncompromising and polarizing, that I think played the largest part in the rejection of the 1967 models and later by the Thunderbird aficionado. The tail-lights were full width, and featured sequential turn signals.Ĭertainly the 1967 to 1969 Thunderbirds, that shared the same basic styling, have a look that is unique. The body lines were sleekly curved, humped over the rear wheels in what was becoming the fashion, and the tail was swept back, the outer edges being behind the center in a shallow vee. In reality, the outboard parts of this were retractable covers over the headlights, the Thunderbird being one of the first cars with this feature. A large oval air intake was the major front-end feature, taking up almost the whole width of the car and filled with a seemingly full-width grille. The Ford stylists took their inspiration from jet aircraft for the front end, particularly USAF fighter jets with great gaping nose intakes such as the F-100 Super Sabre. In many respects, the '67 look was a forerunner of 1970s muscle car style, with no small amount of aggression. It has a somewhat European look to it from certain angles, particularly from the front, and it was no bad looker from the back, either.ġ967's Thunderbird, on the other hand, looked like nothing else at the time, and its very striking looks are definitely in the ' love it or hate it' category. Attractive and sporty looking, and with a knack for seeming a much smaller, nimbler car than it really was, it's really hard to hate the '66 styling. The 1966 model, while not the most striking Thunderbird ever, certainly drew few detractors in the looks department. Let's examine the changes in the 1967 model year compared to the 1966 Ford Thunderbird. I must admit to substantial bias up front I own a '67 myself. So what happened in the 1967 model year that was so awful? Is the opinion of the vast majority of car enthusiasts and Thunderbird fans a valid one? In fact, you'd be forgiven for believing there were no Thunderbirds between '66 and a few 1990s ones you still see kicking around. Save for the few ultra-purists who would rather forget about any Thunderbird produced after 1957 and the ending of two-seater production, the opinion is nigh-on universal. A web site about Thunderbird history produced at the time of the 2002 model year T-Bird relaunch mentions nothing between that year and the modern day, and it's the same with many unofficial web sites, parts dealers, catalogs, clubs and events. Even the Ford Motor Company, it seems, likes to pretend these days that the Ford Thunderbird line ended in 1966. Even in these first two years of the correspondence that I read last night, Queen Victoria has talked about what she called the “shadow side” of marriage – pregnancy & childbirth. Vicky married Fritz, a Prince of Germany, at 17 & mother & daughter wrote thousands of letters to each other over the next 45 years. I started reading it last night & I’m loving it. The letters have been selected from the six volume edition published some time ago. The photos are also beautiful, including several of the Royal family that I hadn’t seen before. Folio Society books always have lovely paper & good bindings but this one is just glorious. This is the most gorgeously produced book I’ve seen in a very long time. Letters to Vicky, the correspondence between Queen Victoria & her daughter, Vicky, the Empress of Germany. However, the most exciting of my Folio purchases (& the main reason I renewed my membership) is this one. I’ve always wanted to read the Chronicles as they’re the basis for many of Shakespeare’s plays & this edition has many of the original woodcuts & commentary by Michael Wood, one of my favourite historians. So, you can see I’ve bought lovely editions of On The Eve by Turgenev, Moonfleet by L Meade Falkner & Holinshed’s Chronicles. I always wait until they offer the books at half price & the time had come. The other books are from the Folio Society. The other book, Cat Detective by Vicky Halls, needs no explanation. A Time of Gifts & Between the Woods & the Water have been recommended by many people over the years so this was a perfect chance to buy them. The latest arrivals are two books by Patrick Leigh Fermor. I’ve been buying from their mail order catalogues (& now their website) for nearly 30 years. Above are a few books I bought from my favourite remainders booksellers, Clouston & Hall in Canberra. You probably won’t be surprised to learn that some books have made their way into the house. Apart from a very cold day of rain & hail on Easter Monday (perfect reading weather), the weather has been unusually mild & sunny (which is also perfect reading weather). I’m looking forward to reading it again.Īfter reading Pushkin’s poetry over the last few months, I couldn’t resist this volume of his stories, including his most famous, The Queen of Spades. Although I’m a member of the Richard III Society, I’ve always been interested in different interpretations of Richard’s life & reputation & Seward has updated the book twice – in 1997 & again this year after the discoveries in Leicester. The subtitle says it all really : England’s Black Legend. I already own a copy of Desmond Seward’s biography of Richard III, first published in the 1980s. This is the 1998 translation for OUP but with the usual attention to detail & gorgeous illustrations of Folio editions. I’ve always wanted to read William of Malmesbury’s Deeds of the English Kings, which was written in the 12th century & tells the story of English history from the coming of the Romans to the reign of Henry I. I was tempted by the Folio Society special offer for their new titles & bought these three gorgeous editions. I’m rushing towards my goal of 1,000 books on the tbr shelves with a vengeance lately. You’d think Phoebe didn’t want me to get at those books, wouldn’t you?! Well, this was one battle of wills she didn’t win. |
